Game Highlight (3): Salute to the Negro Leagues - Black Tyrites Night
Join us as we take a look back at Akron's very own Negro League team. The Akron Black Tyrites were a member of the Negro National League in 1933. The club was originally in Columbus before moving to Akron for just ten games before moving up to Cleveland and becoming the Giants. The name was originally supposed to be "Tyr-ites" to play off the British word for tire, "tyre," but the name soon became "Ty-rites" to match Akronites.
