At Home with the Howers
'Home' holds different meanings for each of us. Our summer exhibit will look at the Hower House through the lens of 'home.' Not only was this an elegant mansion built in 1871, a symbol of wealth and prosperity, this place was also the place where three generations of the Hower Family lived. Their home was a place to conduct business, strengthen the essential social connections, as well as a safe place for the family to live, grow, and give back to their community.
We will explore the different functions of this grand old home, the contributions of those who dwelt here, along with their vision for its future, and its current role as an historic house museum with a phenomenal collection.
