There are literally hundreds of homeless and transient individuals living in the Greater Akron area. For the most part they are carrying all of their important worldly possessions with them in their backpacks. A major "Treasure" to them is a good, sturdy backpack.

As we head into the summer, a great number of backpacks in our area will be retired, to be replaced with new models in the fall. The Peter Maurin Center is an Akron, inner-city Drop-In Center for homeless and marginalized individuals. If some of these larger-size, “retiring” backpacks are mostly clean and retain a substantial amount of useful remaining life, The Peter Maurin Center would like to be the facilitator of getting these backpacks to those that won’t retire them anytime soon.

Our goal is to get fifty (50) backpacks for distribution to those that have asked for them. If you have a backpack that still wants to work, you can bring it to R. Shea Canal Place and place it in the bin that is marked for “The Peter Maurin Center”. Thank you for giving back to the community!
