Details
A professional chamber ensemble bringing to light timeless classics, newly-composed works, and rearrangements of standard repertoire.
The Blue Ridge Trombone Quartet was formed in 2012 with the same mission as the marital saying: “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue,” bringing to light “something old” in the presentation of timeless classics from the quartet repertoire. The Quartet has initiated the creation of two “somethings new” in Anthony Barfield’s 2015 Horizon of the Aten and Jeff Cortazzo’s 2019 Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. They feature arrangements, created by the quartet members, of several “somethings borrowed” from organ works, string quartets, operatic arias, and even a full orchestra. The “something blue” is in the name - The Blue Ridge Trombone Quartet! The BRTQ’s members include Dr. Nathan Dishman (Iowa State University), Dr. Drew Leslie (Colorado State University), Sean McGhee (Cincinnati-based freelance trombonist and educator), and Dr. Cory Mixdorf (University of Arkansas). The BRTQ has performed at universities and festivals across the United States, including a performance with The U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own” at the 2019 American Trombone Workshop and a recent performance at the 2022 International Trombone Festival.
The concert is part of the Kulas Concert Series’ 20th season, generously supported by the Cleveland-based Kulas Foundation. $12 general admission, all students are free with ID. For more information, call 330-972-8301 or email concerts@uakron.edu.
