From Dr. Ciara Dennis–Morgan:
“Our heart is forever soft for the varying and layered Black experience in America. To celebrate Crooklyn’s 30th anniversary this year and to always celebrate Black people we are excited to partner with the great team at The Nightlight on Juneteenth to experience this classic film. Like the totality of Black culture, the influence of Spike Lee, and this film is undeniable. We hope this film leads to deeper and wider discussion of grief and childhood while also centering Black joy. Enjoy this Spike Lee Joint, and enjoy this life, you deserve it!”

Starring Alfre Woodard and Delroy Lindo and featuring a standout performance from Zelda Harris as the film’s 9-year-old narrator, CROOKLYN is a beautifully textured look at growing up in black America. The emotional flip side to the more explosive DO THE RIGHT THING, the film (co-written with sister Joie and brother Cinque) is Lee’s most heartfelt (and surprisingly sentimental) film: a semiautobiographical portrait of the Carmichael family in Brooklyn in the early 1970s.
