Join us for fortune and glory! Fortunato Film School at Jilly’s Music Room presents “Raiders of the Lost Ark” (1981) – Steven Spielberg’s game-changing retro adventure classic that introduced the world to one of cinema’s greatest heroes, archeologist treasure hunter, Indiana Jones!
Want to learn how to analyze a film? Ever wondered about the history and stories behind Spielberg’s thrill-a-minute adventure, Raiders of the Lost Ark? Join us for “Fortunato Film School” where ASU film professor Joe Fortunato will screen, discuss, and provide “live commentary” on this first ever collaboration between film giants Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. We’ll discuss why Indiana Jones is often cited as one of the most beloved screen heroes of all time.
The evening will start with a brief discussion about the background and making of the film with WAKR Radio Personality Ray Horner. Enjoy brunch at Jilly’s while you screen the film! Think of it as a “living room book club” for film fans! During the film, live commentary will be provided, giving you insights into the filmmaking process and some guidance on how to “read” a film creatively.
After the film, Joe and Ray will invite the audience to discuss what we’ve learned and debate if it lives up to its reputation as a film classic. Come see the film that brought classic 1930s adventure serials back to life!
Tickets are available for MOVIE ONLY and MOVIE + BUFFET BRUNCH. Our hearty buffet includes: fresh scrambled Ohio Eggs, Applewood Smoked Bacon, Sausage Links, Hashbrowns, Fresh Fruit and Waffle Bar with Sweet & Savory Toppings. Full cash bar. Brunch 11AM-3PM. Movie starts at NOON.
(NOTE: While no “homework” or prior knowledge of film or this movie is required, if you’ve never seen the picture, some people might want to watch it for the first time before coming to the event without the interruptions of live commentary to “experience” the film as it was intended. That is a personal choice, of course, and not a requirement to attend!)
