This is a free, virtual program taking place via Zoom, presented by Akron-Summit County Public Library.

The research landscape is full of hundreds of thousands of resources that are potentially useful to anyone pursuing African American genealogy. The concept of toolbox building is rooted in seeking out and organizing these resources in a more systematic manner. Join us to explore a number of key African American topics and identify more worthwhile resources, many of them unfamiliar to genealogists.

Tim Pinnick is an article writer, national speaker, and author of the book "Finding and Using African American Newspapers." From 2006-2020, he taught as an associate instructor in the biennial "Researching African American Ancestors" course at the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research. Tim will be teaching his landmark African American Toolbox workshop at the Institute again in July of this year. A lover of history, he has presented papers at conferences and served on multiple boards for genealogical and historical organizations.
