The Nightlight is honored to welcome Dorenna Newton to Akron for the Ohio premiere of Generation Flex. The filmmaker will be in-person for a Q&A after both screenings on Friday, January 17 (5 pm and 7 pm).
When four teen boys decide to bulk up and get cut, they enter a dark world of intense social media pressure, shady supplements, and life-changing setbacks. Their quest for unattainable muscle is a warning shot to a generation of boys.
Jacked arms. Swole chests. Chiseled abs. Spurred by intense pressure and unattainable body standards, boys are risking their physical and mental health to build muscle and lose weight.
Last year, Men's Health followed the stories of four young teens in their quests to bulk up and get cut. They found a dark world of social media manipulation, shady supplements, and very real consequences. They also talked to the top experts in the country—from behavioral health researchers to emergency clinicians—for their insights and advice.
The result is Generation Flex, Men's Health's first-ever full-length documentary film.
Dorenna Newton is Executive Producer for Men’s Health and Esquire where she oversees all filmed content for the brands. The creator of shows like Gym & Fridge and Explain This, she also writes and directs films and comedy series.
