This summer, performance artist Ro Miller will be exhibiting their first two works in a longer series entitled Interlinked. Link ½, the first in the series, is a work that is part of a new genre of performance called Links. Links are performances which challenge traditional notions of form, movement, and time which accompany the medium of performance art. In this summer’s performance, the audience will witness the active relationship between two Links. Throughout the course of 16 days, each Link will either be in a state of “high tension” or “low tension”. Both Links cannot occupy the same state at the same time. At the eighth day mark, the audience will be able to witness the transition of each Link to its alternate state. At any point, if either link is unable to maintain a given state, the performance is deemed to be over. Each Link is composed of imprinted paper used to preserve two floral opposites, floral bouquets, and wildflowers. This reduction to an imprint will partially maintain both types of flower's shape and aesthetics but without either inherent irreplaceable vitality. Through the collection, compression, and finally, performance of the remaining information about the flower's original vitality, the artist questions whether our good-natured attempts at preservation do as much harm as good.

Ro Miller is a non-binary artist from New Jersey. They are a performance artist whose work pushes up against the notion that performance is ephemeral and body-based. With a focus on micro-tension, something that they have found defines our interactions, they utilize objectified performance as a medium of questioning and expression. Raised in a Catholic family, their work often utilizes religion as a tool to address conditions of privilege, power, and identity.
