Akron native Jon Lampley is coming back home to celebrate the release of his debut album, Night Service: Live at LunÀtico!
An essential contributor to some of the most versatile, hardest-grooving ensembles currently at work, Lampley, the grandson of a pastor, learned his craft in the Sunday service band in Akron, Ohio. Since 2015, he’s played in the house band on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, helmed by Louis Cato and Jon Batiste. Lampley also co-founded the stellar jazz-funk group Huntertones, and tours with O.A.R.
With Night Service, Lampley aims to take the zeal of his gospel upbringing into the secular space, where folks can feel inspired regardless of their particular faith. The record is a combination of Lampley’s original music and arrangements of his favorite songs, all serving to showcase “the core of my being both creatively and as a human being.”
