Despite an overall decrease in US Suicides during the pandemic, BIPOC populations either maintained or increased in rates of suicide. An alarming trend upwards of suicides among African American youth has made the headlines of most major news outlets. Individuals who attend this seminar will discuss these trends with the intent to help reduce suicides in the Summit County area. Specifically, attendees will focus on the rates of suicide across the Black and other communities of color, recognize suicide risk and protective factors specific to BIPOC populations, and discuss strategies to prevent suicides among Black and other Communities of Color.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify statistical trends of suicide rates among Black and Communities of Color.
- Recognize risk factors for suicidal behavior in the Black community and discuss etiological theories.
- Describe strategies to reduce suicidal behavior and enhance protective factors.
1.5 CEU's are pending for psychologists, counselors, social workers, and chemical dependency licensees.
