**Jilly's Music Room is CLOSED on November 16, 2023 in memory of our beloved friends Chuck Keith and Denny Coyle on the night we would have been enjoying love, laughter and great music with The HiFis, family and friends. Words cannot truly express how much we will miss them. Denny and Chuck were great men, lifelong friends, with huge hearts and amazing talent. May they rest in peace and fill the heavens with joyful noise.**

The HiFis are more than just part of the Akron Sound. Three of the members, lead singer, songwriter and guitarist, Chuck Keith, Lead guitarist Denny Coyle, and Keyboardist Harvey Gold started out playing together in the band, Willie, in 1971.

Denny spent the next years earning his keep as Akron’s premier guitarist, a highly desired working musician in a number of notable bands, Harvey went on to found the seminal “Art Rock for Laughs” band from Akron, Tin Huey, then later, Half Cleveland, with his Hueys (and Waitresses) cohort Chris Butler, and Chuck continued to write, including ”Sister Rose” with Harvey, recorded and released by Tin Huey, his tune “Hurtin’ You” covered by the band Color Me Gone on their EP for A&M Records.

Along with Chuck and Denny, original HiFis drummer Rich Roberts also played in the well regarded Akron Sound trio, Chi-Pig. Bassist Tren Houseman has been a fixture in NE Ohio, notably with The Bangorillas and The Bad Dudes.

The original incarnation of HiFis (the 80s) played such notable venues as Akron’s The Bank, Cleveland’s Agora, and was featured on a WMMS Coffee Break Concert. Chuck dipped his toe back into 21st Century performance, for a time, with the All Star (Bob Basone, George Cabanis, Rich Roberts) Paper Crowns. The HIFis run the “rock band gamut,” from an occasional dip into a Little Feat kind of Honky Tonk, to energizing explorations in pop and rock. Known for consistently great lyrics from Chuck, much good humor and, most of the time, easy to dance to, The HiFis are ALWAYS FUN!
