A family of refugees from Sudan has landed in cold, upstate New York just as an administration hostile to immigrants takes over and the Refugee Center overseeing their resettlement is faced with a battle for its own survival. Filmmaker Loch Phillipps will be on-hand to answer questions.
Director Loch Phillipps will present his documentary, Utica: The Last Refuge, which documents the arrival of a family refugees from Sudan as they being their new life in Utica, New York. These events take place against the broader backdrop of the urban revitalization of Utica, fueled by a homegrown refugee resettlement program whose very existence came under threat due to a radical shift in immigration policy.
