Two beloved Christmas films, “Elf” and “The Polar Express,” will be shown free of charge on the big screen at the Akron Civic Theatre on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021, presented exclusively by Wayside Furniture. Patrons will also enjoy free popcorn and holiday sing-alongs.

The Wayside Holiday Movies are free, but tickets are required and can be picked up beginning Oct. 25 at Wayside Furniture, 1367 Canton Rd. in Akron and at the Akron Civic Theatre box office, 182 S. Main St. in Akron, Monday thru Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

On Dec. 12 at 2:00 p.m., Wayside Holiday Movies presents the beloved Christmas comedy, “Elf, starring Will Ferrell as Buddy, who is accidentally transported to the North Pole as a toddler and raised to adulthood among Santa's elves. Unable to shake the feeling that he doesn't fit in, the adult Buddy travels to New York, in full elf uniform, in search of his real father. A holiday sing-along accompanied by the Civic’s organist will begin at 1:30 p.m., when patrons will help raise the Elf Spirit Claus-o-Meter.

At 6:00 p.m., “The Polar Express, a classic, inspiring adventure based on the beloved children's book by Chris Van Allsburg, takes the screen. When a doubting young boy takes an extraordinary train ride to the North Pole, he embarks on a journey of self-discovery that shows him that the wonder of life never fades for those who believe. A holiday sing-along accompanied by the Civic’s organist will begin at 5:30 p.m.

“We are grateful to Wayside Furniture for helping us continue a beloved and highly anticipated Christmas tradition at the Akron Civic Theatre,” said Howard Parr, executive director of the theater. “This is the fourth year Wayside has sponsored free Wayside Holiday Movies, and we look forward to getting area families in the spirit of the season again this year.”
