Akron Zoo closed on January 21 and 22
January 20, 2025, AKRON, Ohio – The Akron Zoo is closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21 and Wednesday, Jan. 22 due to extreme cold temperatures. The zoo will reopen on Thursday, Jan. 23.
“When the temperatures get extremely cold, our staff will provide additional precautions that keep our animals safe, such as straw beds, heat lamps and heated rocks,” said Bob Lessnau, chief life sciences officer at the Akron Zoo. “All of our animals have housing temperature parameters of when they need to remain indoors, and with the current temperatures, the majority of our animals will be inside. A few animals will be given the choice and will prefer to remain outdoors, such as the grizzly bears, red wolves, bald eagles, red panda and coyotes.”
The Akron Zoo is open 361 days a year. Off-season hours are 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Admission rates are $9 – $19. Children under two are free and parking is free. For more information visit www.akronzoo.org or call (330) 375-2550.
