Akron Zoo to Host Annual Holiday Lighting Event
November 12, 2020, AKRON, Ohio – The Akron Zoo will be hosting their annual holiday lighting event, Wild Lights. Wild Lights, presented by Akron Children’s Hospital, will run Nov. 27-29, Dec. 4-6, 11-13, 18-23 and 26-30 from 5 – 9 p.m.
During Wild Lights, guests can explore the zoo decorated in dazzling holiday lights and lighted displays. Many of the animals will be in their habitats and different areas in the park will have lights synchronized with holiday music. Free rides will be available on the Conservation Carousel, presented by Giant Eagle.
Special visitors will be available for socially distant meet and greets on select dates – Santa will be available on Dec. 4-6 from 5 – 8 p.m. and the Grinch will be on-grounds on Dec. 18-20 from 5 – 8 p.m.
The zoo’s food truck, Panda Treats, will be serving fresh donuts and drinks and Grasslands Café will be open with a special holiday menu. The Komodo Kingdom Education Building will open during the event for the first time since March with a limited capacity, giving guests the opportunity to visit with the Komodo dragons, Galapagos tortoises, Curious Creatures and more. However, the Komodo Kingdom Café will not be open.
The event will include all COVID-19 safety precautions, such as limited capacity, frequent sanitizing, etc. All guests, ages 10 and older, are required to wear a COVID face covering at all times when in the Akron Zoo.
All tickets must be purchased online in advance at akronzoo.org/wild-lights-event. To avoid overcrowding, tickets are available via time ticketing and guests must select a half hour period to enter the zoo.
Tickets are $13 for adults and $9 for children for non-members and Akron Zoo member adults are $9 and member children are $6. Infants under two are free, but do require a ticket. A limited number of tickets are available each day, and this event can sell out.
The Akron Zoo is now open. Current hours are 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. and admission is $8 per person. Children under two are free and parking is $3. Tickets must be purchased online in advance. For more information visit www.akronzoo.org or call (330) 375-2550.
