Akron Zoo to Open on June 17

June 5, 2020, AKRON, Ohio – The Akron Zoo will open to the general public on Wednesday, June 17. The zoo will offer a soft launch for staff and donors on June 14, and for Akron Zoo members on June 15 and 16.

The Akron Zoo will be observing winter hours and admission rates. The zoo will be open 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. and tickets will be $8 per person. All tickets must be purchased online at akronzoo.org.

The zoo has many safety precautions in place, including time ticketing, one-way pathways, frequent cleaning and disinfecting and more. Only 200 guests will be admitted into the park every half hour. A maximum occupancy will be 1,500 guests, which is 25% of the zoo’s full capacity.

All indoor buildings will be closed, along with the zoo’s Conservation Carousel, A & K Wilber Express and the boma (goat feeding). All staff members will be required to wear masks. Guests are strongly encouraged to wear masks and will be asked to observe social distancing.

Special hours will be offered to those who are vulnerable to COVID-19 every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 – 11 a.m.

Tickets will go on sale on June 10 for the general public. Akron Zoo members will be able to purchase tickets for the member-only preview on June 9.
