Blast Off for an Unforgettable Night at "A Trip to the Moon" Fundraiser for Akron Soul Train

September 16, 2024, Akron, Ohio — Akron Soul Train invites you to embark on a one-of-a-kind cosmic adventure with its upcoming soirée and fundraiser, "A Trip to the Moon,” inspired by the surreal world of early 1900s cinema. Taking place on Saturday, October 12, this event promises a night of stellar entertainment, all while supporting Akron Soul Train's mission to foster creativity and artistic expression in the community.

Step into a fantastical George Méliès film set as we transport you to a lunar wonderland filled with music, comedy, art, and intergalactic surprises. Attendees will be immersed in a night of extraordinary experiences that are sure to leave them starstruck!

Your Lunar Adventure Includes:

  • Musical Moonwalks. Dance through the stars with live performances from:
    • Time Cat - Akron’s favorite rock wizards perform Bowie’s album “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.”
    • Hyperius Blake and the Sound Experiment - step into the starship lounge with groovy space jazz. 
    • Haren and Thorla - debuting newly composed instrumental music embodying the moon's phases.
  • Cosmic Comedy & Stellar Emcee. Akron’s own Matt Farkas of Rubber City Comedy will bring you laughs that are out-of-this-world as the evening’s emcee.
  • Silent Film Reels. Enjoy vintage George Méliès cinema throughout the venue, adding a classic touch to the futuristic fun.
  • Intergalactic Entertainment. Pose for photos at our Moon landscape station and enjoy roving vaudeville acts in our celestial corridors.
  • Cosmic Consumables. Indulge in FREE otherworldly food, while Baxter’s Speakeasy serves up stellar drinks at the cash bar (additional purchase).
  • Lunar Loot. Browse exclusive merchandise, bid in the silent auction, or purchase from our art sale, with 50% of proceeds supporting featured artists. 
  • Costume party. Please come dressed as your favorite silent film star, space explorer, or celestial being, and prepare for an evening that defies gravity!

TICKETS: 

VIP Voyagers - $150 

VIP tickets include early entrance to the venue at 5:30 pm, an exclusive cocktail party, first access to featured art for purchase with a special discount, a themed goodie bag filled with celestial surprises, and a new music debut by Haren and Thorla. 

General Galaxy - $50

Entrance begins at 6:30 pm. Music, art, food, fun, and Méliès mischief.

Late Night Nova - $20

Entrance is at 9 pm. Includes Time Cat performance.
