Call for Artists: MASK-R-AID

April 17, 2020, Akron - In response to the CDC's recommendation for people to wear masks in public and as COVID-19 continues to impact the arts ecosystem, Curated Storefront announces a call for artists to create functional masks to be put into production, sold online at www.CuratedStorefront.org, and exhibited at a Curated Storefront site.

Curated Storefront’s mission is to support the creative economy by continuing to provide artists with a source of income. Half of the proceeds from sales will go back to artists directly with the remainder benefiting Curated Storefront. This puts great art in the hands and on the faces of the public while helping them to stay safe.

Cash awards will be given to first through third place winners. MASK-R-AID submissions will be juried by Curated Storefront’s Curatorial Committee.

About Curated Storefront
Curated Storefront established in 2016 as a Knight Arts Challenge project recipient to activate vacant storefronts in downtown Akron with vibrant art exhibits. Since then, Curated Storefront transitioned as a nonprofit organization in 2019, venturing into other public art projects. Curated Storefront has transformed downtown Akron with a program of free, publicly accessible art installations offering a cohesive curatorial program. Since its inception, Curated Storefront activated 25 buildings with 86 storefront exhibits with work from 122 artists. Of the 122 featured artists, 32 of those artists exhibited multiple times through Curated Storefront. 11 of the storefronts that sat empty for years were commercially developed, revitalized, or closed after being highlighted through the project.

Mission
Curated Storefront brings compelling art to diverse audiences through a dynamic program of installations, events, and exhibits that activate underutilized buildings and spaces in Akron, and provides artists with opportunities to expand their practices.

Vision
Transforming Akron to a viable and attractive urban destination through the arts.
