City of Akron to Host 41st Annual National Night Out August 6

Akron, Ohio, July 10, 2024 — On Tuesday, August 6, the City of Akron will host the 41st annual National Night Out in every ward across the city. National Night Out (NNO) is an annual community-building campaign, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch that promotes police-community relations and neighborhood unity. The goal of National Night Out is to strengthen participation in local programs that prevent and deter crime, in an effort to make neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. Events and activities will vary by location, but most will have snacks/refreshments, music, and activities for kids and all will be free to attend. 

“National Night Out is an important annual event in our city and I’m excited to celebrate the 41st anniversary,” said Mayor Malik. “It gives our residents an opportunity to gather together with neighbors, Akron Police and Fire, and city officials to build community, create dialogue, and have a fun evening. Building relationships between our residents and our public safety forces is so important to continuing to create trust and ongoing dialogue in our city.”

The National Night Out campaign involves citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic/religious groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials. In all, more than 38 million people are expected to participate in NNO in more than 16,000 communities across all 50 states and beyond.
