Downtown Businesses Show Customers Some Love on Galentine's and Valentine's Day

(Akron, Ohio) - Your favorite downtown Akron business may be planning to show you some love on February 13 or 14. Downtown Akron Partnership (DAP) is working with 13 businesses to bring customers "Galentine's Day" on Thursday, February 13. Galentine's Day began in 2010 as a fictional holiday devised by Leslie Knope, a character on the popular TV show Parks and Rec. What started as fiction has grown into a real holiday, preceding Valentine's Day, which celebrates the joys of female friendship. Downtown Akron businesses from salons to consultants, bakeries and night clubs will present special offers and discounts to celebrants.

Tammy Ostrander of Tammy O's Hair Salon said, "We are looking forward to touching gals' hearts with love on this special day while collaborating with DAP to celebrate women in the community and recognize their accomplishments! We'll make you beautiful."

Kimberly Beckett, DAP Director of Business Relations, said "We thought Galentine's Day would be the perfect occasion to showcase some of our downtown, woman-owned businesses. We had interest from numerous owners as soon as we started asking around."

Participating businesses include Northside Cellar, blue: A Goodwill Boutique, Jilly's Music Room, Zeber-Martell Studio, Tammy O's Spa and Salon, Sweet Mary's Bakery, The Peanut Shoppe, SYLC Consulting, Western Fruit Basket, Art by Design, Bizzy Beads Boutique, The Tea Lady and Smile Inside. Special offers from Galentine's Day businesses can be viewed at https://www.downtownakron.com/explore/galentines-day
