Musician DASHIEL to play Wild Oscar’s at Akron Civic Theatre, Saturday, December 21, 2024

Dec. 12, 2024, Akron, OH — Dashiel Rowland, a genre-bending, multi-instrumentalist songwriter and producer, will headline Wild Oscar’s at The Akron Civic Theatre on December 21. He’ll be joined by multi-instrumentalists Ethan Marsh and Avery Green. The trio will perform songs off Dashiel’s latest release, “when the day is done”, as well as older releases, unreleased material, and free jams.

Dashiel has been crafting and releasing songs from his bedroom studio for nearly a decade. He began experimenting with hip-hop production and raps while in high school in Akron. While attending Loyola University's music industry program in New Orleans, he was exposed to a wider array of influences, dabbling in and taking bits from jazz, indie, R&B, and electronic styles. After finishing school, he worked in TV production in Los Angeles before moving to Brooklyn, N.Y., where he is an activist in the nonprofit and civics realm by day and records at night.

In October of 2024, Dashiel released "when the day is done," a lush blend of layered electronic and organic textures, with moody intricate vocals. Four years in the making, it spans several states and phases of his life. From a parking garage at 1600 Vine in Los Angeles to the shoulder lane of the Pacific Coast Highway where he was seeking refuge overnight, to the living room piano in the house built by his grandfather in Akron. The six-song EP ultimately came to completion in the wee hours of long Brooklyn nights. Reflecting a range of themes and intricacies of the human experience, the project opens with “requiem for vyvanse,” a melodic and ironic musing on an artist’s appreciation of borrowed dosages of ADHD medication as a means to create. The second track, “digital love,” is a melancholy love song about falling for someone who exists only within the context of a screen, while the outtro, “inertia,” initially was crafted from a quickly composed beat and a vocal freestyle sketched out over an hour’s work only to be revisited after a period of limbo and reinvention. The song expresses how time and space may bring clarity and unearth beauty in the seemingly senseless mess of life. “when the day is done,” is available for streaming on all major platforms with visualizers available on YouTube.

Ethan Marsh and Avery Green were born and raised in Cincinnati. Dashiel met Ethan in the winter of 2022 while living in a house full of musicians in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. The group would regularly assemble for impromptu street jam-busk sessions out front of their home on Eastern Parkway, occasionally taking their set to Prospect and Central Parks. Ever since, Ethan and Dashiel have worked together, each contributing to the others’ solo projects. Ethan has an extensive background in jazz, studying jazz composition and psychology at University of Cincinnati, and makes a living playing in New York City as an upright bassist. He also launched a solo project that blends his jazz prowess with experimental and rock sensibilities. Ethan introduced Dashiel to Avery last summer in Brooklyn. Ethan and Avery grew up together in Cincinnati, playing jazz and gigging around the Cincy circuit in various genres and styles. Avery studied drums and composition at the University of Cincinnati and has been composing and producing solo work over the past seven years.

Dashiel is working on several other projects and plans to release one in early spring of 2025. He has a versatile collection of songs available on all streaming services, and even some slightly hidden work on secondary Soundcloud pages.
