Summit County Historical Society to Host FREE Annual Open House on January 4th from 1 - 3 pm

January 2, 2025, Akron, OH — The community is welcome to attend this free event featuring holiday celebrations in both the John Brown House and the Perkins Stone Mansion on Saturday, January 4th from 1-3 pm. Cookies and wassail will be served along with Pearl Coffee’s signature Hell’s Half Acre coffee blended and made for the Society’s Centennial representing the historic neighborhood of their company location.

The Perkins Stone Mansion has been transformed into the 21st century with the Society’s Centennial Christmas featuring 100 years of Christmas. Each room of the home of Akron and Summit County’s founding family is a different decade from 1920 to 2020. The color theme of each room is connected to Sherwin Williams’ recognition of the Color of the Decade. Artifacts, toys, housewares, clothing and heirlooms have been loaned by volunteers and staff of the Society.

The John Brown House features displays on Kwanzaa, Hanukkah and vintage characters from Akron’s downtown window displays. Denise Lundell, Society accountant and exhibit/gift shop manager, curated the display with the assistance of Society volunteers, staff and board directors. Special thanks to students at Miller South Visual and Performing Arts School for their college & career program volunteerism decorating the 2000s room.

Visit before the historic homes are closed for the winter season!
