The City of Akron's Lock 3 Announces Partnership with NoHi Pop-Up Restaurant
Akron, Ohio, June 29, 2021 — Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan and Lock 3, the City of Akron's downtown beacon of fun and entertainment, is thrilled to announce a new partnership with North Akron CDC’s NoHi, during its 18-week summer season.
"The NoHi pop-up is a real Akron success story," said Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan. "As we welcome fans and families back downtown this summer, we are excited to be able to offer the NoHi experience to an even wider audience. By partnering with the North Akron CDC to bring NoHi to Lock 3 we will be able to showcase the creative and diverse flavors of our local food entrepreneurs.”
NoHi, owned and operated by the North Akron Community Development Corporation, with the City of Akron, will facilitate and oversee a rotating test kitchen in Lock 3 during operating hours.
Justin Chenault, Operating Director of NACDC states, “Working with Lock 3—which hosts historically large crowds and fast foods—has created an incredible opportunity for the NoHi team to come together with the City of Akron and make an experience that’s greater for all involved. First and foremost, we’re working to showcase the talents of culinary artists in Akron, while also bringing Lock 3 guests unique food that is also extremely local and fresh.”
Since arriving in the kitchen at Lock 3, Chenault and his team have upgraded it with mixers and food processors to feature gourmet items at affordable prices, like this week’s rotating menu that includes Chicken Boudin Balls for $5, Bayou City Shrimp Po Boy Basket, Crispy Fish Tacos, and Mexican Loaded Fries for $8 each.
“Guest experience and satisfaction have been part of our conversation since day one,” states Chenault. “We’re committed to finding top local culinary talent and looking to work with as many local food vendors and culinary artists as possible.”
For those interested in learning more about NoHi or being involved as a local food vendor or culinary artist, please connect with Chenault at justin@northakroncdc.org.
Filled with evening concerts, movies, exercise classes, and community events, Lock 3’s summer schedule, which will now feature dishes from NoHi, was crafted to bring back safe community entertainment to provide top-notch experiences for the entire family.
