Buckeye State Credit Union Opens New Main Street Office

March 27, 2024, Akron, Ohio — In November 2023, Buckeye State Credit Union relocated to 195 S. Main St. in downtown Akron from their former location at Canal Place. Now, they announce a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the move to their new offices, which will take place Thursday, March 28, 2024, beginning at 4 pm.

The ceremony will include opening remarks from Buckeye State Credit Union CEO Mike Abernathy followed by remarks from Congresswoman Emilia Sykes (tentative) and a representative from the City of Akron Mayor’s office, the ribbon cutting itself, refreshments and tours of their new building. This event is open to the public.

With their new headquarters located in the heart of downtown, Buckeye State Credit Union plans to direct resources toward Main Street consumers and small businesses, as opposed to larger investors. They believe that providing financial services to the local community is what helps it to grow and flourish.

About Buckeye State Credit Union

Buckeye State Credit Union is a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI). This means they are mission driven and dedicated to providing financial services that meet the needs of economically disadvantaged individuals within underserved communities. They have put millions of dollars back into the hands of Akron borrowers for the purposes of buying or refinancing homes, buying automobiles and assisting borrowers in escaping predatory payday lenders.

Although Buckeye State Credit Union is a new addition to the downtown district, they have big plans for the future of their new building, with ideas that include turning the first floor into a collaborative community space.

Buckeye State Credit Union is proud to service not only Summit County, but Stark, Wayne, Medina, Cuyahoga, Lake, Ashland and Richland Counties as well. They have been in business since 1933.
